Reading: Students will continue to read Because of Winn Dixie, independently, as a class, and in groups. They will continue to review new settings, characters, and main events as they arise.
No Spelling Writing: Students will wrap up their “I Am” poems today. We will begin writing Haiku poems. Math: Students will review various math concepts in preparation for Math MAP on Thursday, May 24th. Science: Students will continue to work on genetic traits. Social Science: Students will finish researching each element for their state’s project. They will begin to type their project on Google Slides.

General News: PARCC testing is from 3/13-3/21.
Reading: Students will continue reading their Roald Dahl novels, and they will meet in their literature circles to discuss the pages they read for the week. Spelling: No Spelling Writing: Students will finish a persuasive letter. Math: Students will identify fractions on a number line. They will complete small fraction projects throughout this week and next. Social Studies: Students will begin the Southwest region of the United States. They will complete a blank map of the states and capitals, and a geography challenge. Science: Students will continue to learn about weather and climate. Reading- Students will begin reading their Roald Dahl novels in their literature circles. They will each assume a role within the literature circle, and discuss the story with their groupmates.
Writing- Students will write a persuasive letter to their parents on why they should get an exotic animal as a pet! Spelling- Spelling words this week are as follows: joke, gym, large, page, stage, giant, range, magic, jacket, and judge. We will have a spelling test on Friday, March 9th. Math- Students will begin Topic 12 on fractions! Students will learn about equal regions, a whole represented as a fraction, and fractions on a number line. Social Studies- Students will review Chapter 6, The Southeast, and take their test on Friday, March 9th.**** Science- Students will begin learning about weather and climate. Reading- Students will be introduced to Roald Dahl in preparation for their novel study. This novel study will be completed in literature circles. Students will learn about the different roles within a literature circle, and practice each role throughout the week.
Writing- Students will complete writing Amazon book reviews. Spelling- This week's spelling words are as follows: rice, silence, sauce, place, spice, center, juice, erase, pencil, and since. Students will have a spelling test on Friday, March 2nd. Math- Students will review multi-step word problems, and complete the Topic 11 assessment on Wednesday, February 28th. Social Studies- Students will complete the last two stops of the Southeast: Gee's Bend Quilters & an Oil Rig in the Gulf of Mexico. Science- Students will complete the Winter Adaptations unit with a final mini project explaining the adaptations of a chosen animal. Reading- Students will begin a current events project. This week, they will learn how to read a current event article and identify the important information to write a summary.
Writing- Students will write a paragraph on their favorite animal. Math- Students will explore the differences between area and perimeter in the same shape. We will review Topic 16 concepts and test on Friday, February 9th. Social Studies- Students will begin exploring the Southeast region. Science- Students will explore how fish survive the winter. Reading: Students will finish comparing Cinderella stories from different cultures.
Writing: Students will explore the structure of a paragraph. They will practice writing conclusion sentences, and then write a full 5-sentence paragraph. Wordly Wise: Students will have their Wordly Wise test on Lesson 9 on Thursday, February 1st. The Wordly Wise words are attitude, confess, defend, gradual, hint, individual, malice, misery, solution, and survey. Spelling: Students will have their spelling test on Tuesday, January 30th. The spelling words are the following: done, other, always, never, school, learn, favorite, again, work, and picture. Math: Students will learn the attributes of different polygons, and then practice finding the perimeters of different shapes. Social Studies: Students will fill in a map of the states and capitals for the Southeast region. They will complete a geography challenge of different features of the region. Science: Students will explore how turtles survive winter. Reading: Students will explore the same fairy tale from different cultural perspectives. They will compare the story elements of each version.
Spelling: This week's spelling words are as follows: Wordly Wise: Students will begin Lesson 9. The words for Lesson 9 are as follows: Math: Students will review Topic 6 concepts. They will take a Topic 6 test on area on Wednesday, January 24th. Students will build their "dream house" and solve for the area of the total house. Social Studies: Students will complete the Chapter 4 Review in preparation for their test on Wednesday, January 24th. Science: Students will find evidence to support their claim on how snakes survive winter. Reading: Students will be comparing stories by the same author. They will be comparing the plot structures, characters, and themes.
Writing: Students will complete writing responses about Martin Luther King, Jr. Wordly Wise: Students will have a Wordly Wise test on Lesson 8 on Friday, January 19th. Math: Students will find the area of squares, rectangles, and irregular figures using the distributive property. Social Studies: Students will explore why laws are important to our country, then create a poster on a specific law in our school community. Science: Students will explore how snakes survive winter. Reading: We have finished reading Sarah, Plain and Tall. We will review the story, and take a small comprehension assessment on Tuesday, December 19th. Students will then complete short projects of their choosing.
Wordly Wise: We will finish studying Lesson 7 words, and have our test on Thursday, December 21st. Writing: Students have completed their Realistic Fiction stories, and will be working on small, winter themed writing assignments this week. Math: We will review Topic 5 concepts on Monday, and students will have their Topic 5 test on Tuesday, December 19th. Science: We will learn how honeybees survive winter in Chicago. Social Studies: We will begin reading the tour for the Northeast region. Reading- This week we will begin previewing our first novel study, Sarah, Plain and Tall. They will complete an activity in response to the problems that will arise during the novel. They will also research the vocabulary from the story.
Writing- Students will edit their realistic fiction drafts. Wordly Wise- Students will complete Lesson 6 and take a test on Friday, December 8th. The Wordly Wise words are Math- We will review Topic 4 on Monday and take the Topic 4 assessment on Tuesday, December 5th. Social Studies- Students will read an article about how women had to replace the men working in factories in Detroit during World War II, and how that changed the work force. They will complete a Chapter 8 review on Wednesday, and take the Chapter 8 test on Friday, December 8th. Science- Students will investigate how downy woodpeckers survive winter. |
